Speaking to an empty church of aging woke activists, a female priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal church, compared the recent deportation of Kilmar Abrego-Garcia to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Her woke remarks drew harsh criticism from online conservatives who blasted the priest for her blasphemous sermon.
As background, Kilmar Abrego-Garcia was deported by the Department of Homeland Security for his ties to the murderous Salvadoran gang MS-13, along with dozens of other suspected gang members. Garcia, who was an illegal immigrant, has become a rallying point for the far left, who oppose his deportation for ideological reasons despite his gang membership.
Starting her April 20, 2025, remarks, the woke priest blended several woke issues in an unorganized rant. She said, “Last year, I was struck by how Jesus’s procession into Jerusalem and subsequent murder resonated with the killing of Russian dissident ALEXEI NAVALNY just a few weeks before Easter. And this year, the part of the story that strikes me happens largely off stage of our story, but sets the whole thing in motion, the political leaders conspiring against Jesus.”
Continuing her woke screed, she added, “And the image I keep seeing when I think about this is our own, US president, sitting the Oval Office with the president of El Salvador… the two men are holding a press conference that addresses the imprisonment of Maryland man Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador and is being held in a mega prison.”
Still not done with her theatrical rant, the pastor aimed at President Trump. She complained, “And the two presidents sit in each seat, share responsibility for this man and his fate, very clearly conducting a charade by claiming they are powerless to return him to the United States. They could not look more guilty.”
Bringing up another irrelevant point to bolster he weak argument, she pulled an anecdote from her personal life. She added, “And on Instagram, a Wisconsin priest, Father David Simmons, captioned the photo of the Presidents with this line, from the passion they handed him over to imprisonment and torture. Abrego Garcia’s case has received significant attention because he was deported in error. Still, we must also remember the three plane loads of people who were deported, who were there with him in prison, where torture is commonplace.”
Finally bringing her woke rant to a close, she whined, “And then there are the 15,000 men who were there in prison before any of these other folks showed up. And this is a place that I and I’m guessing most of you had never even heard of until the last month, no one deserves that treatment, not if they entered our country without proper immigration documents, not if they are members of a gang, and not if they’ve been convicted of a crime, and I imagine these incarcerated men also feel that they are in the tomb, paralyzed by inhuman treatment and cruelty, separated from family and friends, watching the clock tick by minute by minute.”

In the comments under her sermon, conservatives blasted the progressive female priest. One such user said, “She is comparing alleged s*x trafficker Kilmar Abrego Garcia to our Lord. He is more like the “unrepentant thief” who mocked Him on the cross. It appears that the harm she is causing is only reaching ~20 people.”
