Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha, memorialized the shooting victims of Minneapolis’s Annunciation Catholic School by laying flowers outside the building. An emotional clip was shared by one of the administration’s many social media accounts, showing the Vance family exhibiting the type of dignity and solemnity befitting such a tragic occasion.
The reason for the visit by the second family comes as the city of Minneapolis and the rest of the nation mourns the loss of two innocent children and a host of victims after a single gunman opened fire on August 27th from outside the exterior of Annunciation while everyone inside was gathered for Mass.
The shooting sparked a predictably immediate response by Democrats to reintroduce the idea of gun bans, which is something Minnesota politicians Jacob Frey and Ilhan Omar did within the week of the tragedy, but also forced Democrats and the media to downplay the self-identity of the shooter, which by all accounts was an individual identifying as transgender.
Regardless, the visit by the Vances was positively received by supporters of the administration and begrudgingly accepted as the obvious thing to do by his detractors. Being Catholic, Vance was an obvious choice to serve as a representative of the Trump administration; and, not being Trump himself, made an official visit more palatable for the woke left community in which the shooting transpired.
Many comments under the video, posted by an official administration account Rapid Response 47, captioned the video writing that the vice president and second lady were in Minnesota to “lay flowers at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, paying respects to the victims of last week’s tragedy.” Take a look at the moving video below:
“Usha Vance appears incredibly dignified and respectful,” one commenter wrote. “May the grieving families find some measure of comfort in her presence.” The idea of dignity is one that resonated with many users on the Musk-owned social media platform. Even when people admitted to not liking Vance, they had to acknowledge he handled the moment with aplomb. “Classy. I’m not a fan of Vance, but this carried the dignity of the office well,” the user said.
Other comments, while not downplaying the reason for the visit from the Vances, noticed that Second Lady Usha exuded many of the same qualities for which First Lady Melania Trump is so often praised. “She is so petite and beautiful,” one comment said. “Great to see people acting with grace, dignity and respect. Usha will be any bit as graceful as Melania I think,” said another.
Vance himself has handled himself as perfectly as could be expected for someone in his position. He previously spoke to a large audience in Wisconsin in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, leading the group in prayer. The second Catholic to ever hold the office, Vance invited everyone in attendance to join him in a short, emotional prayer to remember and honor the departed children.
“I’m just going to say a prayer for the two little kids who who lost their lives yesterday. And this is a prayer we say a lot in my church, and I’ve always found it very meaningful. It’s very short, but eternal rest. Grant unto them, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God. Rest in peace. Amen. Thank you all,” Vance prayed.
