At Donald Trump’s inauguration prayer service on Monday, the pastor nagged the freshly sworn-in president to “have mercy” on immigrants and transgender children. She was making “one final plea.” The so-called “bipartisan” prayer service in Washington, D.C. became another woke soapbox. Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde aimed directly at President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The woke harpy said “In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” during her sermon at the National Cathedral. Trump and Vice President JD Vance watched unamused with their families. She added, “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
She moved on to immigration: “Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land.” When reporters asked Trump what he thought of the sermon, he responded “Was not too exciting, was it?” He added, “They could do much better.” While Trump remained stone-faced during the tirade, Vice President Vance can be seen wincing in embarrassment.
The woke minister called immigrants faithful members” of churches, temples, synagogues and other places of worship and said they were “good neighbors” who pay taxes. She concluded, “I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.”
“I was looking at the President because I was speaking directly to him. I was also, frankly as you do in every sermon, speaking to everyone who was listening through that one-on-one conversation with the President, reminding us all that the people that are frightened in our country, the two groups of people that I mentioned, are our fellow human beings,” Budde said in an interview on her comments.
However, newly unearthed information shows that despite her insistence that her message wasn’t an overt political actor, Budde has a history of left-wing activism. Donation records prove that Budde contributed $250 to the Obama for America campaign in 2012. The gift was filed under her occupation as pastor for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
According to Real Clear Politics’ senior reporter Paul Sperry, her son, Amos, works with a former head of Barack Obama’s campaign team and contributes to George Soros’ Swing Left Pac. When she was asked to justify her actions, she said These are the people that I know. These are not abstract people for me. These are actual people that I know. So I wanted to speak on their behalf.”

Trump to to social media to strike back. “The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard-line Trump hater,” Trump wrote. “She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.” He added, “She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA.”
