A California legislator faced the ire of Christians and conservatives alike for using the lyrics from an insufferable Beyonce song as a prayer during remarks in front of the state assembly. The entire moment was captured on camera and immediately stirred controversy for subverting the purpose of prayer and the repeated use by this particular woman to invoke the low-IQ hip-hop genre into politics.

For context, California State Assemblywoman Tina McKinnon spoke in February of 2025 and quoted Beyonce during remarks from the floor. As it was February, the black Democrat felt it appropriate to cite a black musical artist during Black History Month. The February 24th recording then went viral.

“Good morning, Mr. Speaker, members, and guests. Let us pray. Raise your hands, breathe in deep. Get yourself a new pair of boots, a shiny buckle, and a wide-brimmed hat, and sing praise as we enter the Cowboy Carter era,” the member of the state’s black caucus began.

“Ask yourself, as Queen B, ask us all: Can we stand for something? Now is not the time to face the wind, my friends. Now ain’t the time to pretend. Now is the time to let love in. Together, can we stand, members? Now is not the time for alligator tears. You see, just like Beyonce, my family lived and died in America, good old USA, a whole lot of red in that white and blue. History can’t be erased,” McKinnon went on.

“You looking for a new America? Are you tired? Work at time and a half for half the pay? I just pray that we don’t crash because I keep my Bible on the dash. We got to keep the faith, members. Keep the faith, California. Keep the faith, and the members say Amen,” she concluded.

Reacting to the insane moment was the late Charlie Kirk, who responded in March of 2025 with a short caption shared alongside the clip. “This is not parody. California Democrats led the state Assembly in “prayer” by reciting the song lyrics to a Beyonce song,” he wrote. Watch that monstrosity below:

Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t even the first time the Democrat mentioned Beyonce by name while pandering to her constituents. In August of 2023, a similar message was conveyed during a rally calling for reparations and harmony and celebration black achievement.

“Hello, Sacramento family. Good morning, Black people and those who love us. My name is Assemblymember Tina McKenna, and I represent AD 61, the heart and soul of the South Bay. My district is the home to hip hop culture and now hosts some of the world’s greatest musical venues that will celebrate hip hop’s next generation,” she proclaimed.

“Venues like the Kia Forum, SoFi Stadium, and the soon-to-be completed Intuit Dome in downtown Englewood are in just another stadium or arena. They are the heartbeat of Inglewood’s Renaissance. In fact, the reigning queen of hip hop, Beyonce, will be performing in Inglewood to celebrate Inglewood’s Renaissance. stress, release the love,” she said, before using a lot of words to say nothing.

“And when those who seek to break down the foundation of who we are. Remember those wise words from Queen B: “You won’t break my soul. So let us tell everybody: You’re looking for motivation. You’re looking for a new foundation. You’re looking for that new vibration. You’re building your own foundation-a foundation for all who call California home, and the people say, Amen,” she finished.
