“Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Parks and Recreation” star Chris Pratt is one of the more outspoken Christians in Hollywood, and now he’s taken to social media to support the man who is perhaps the most outspoken Christian in the entertainment industry: Mark Wahlberg. Pratt did so in an Instagram story in which he shared that he was using the Hallow app.
As background, Wahlberg has been deeply involved in the advertising for Hallow. He helped create an advertisement for it that played during the Super Bowl, for example, and he has appeared on Fox News and other programs to discuss the app and why it is important. Hallow is an app focused on helping Christians develop in their lives and faith. It provides everything from a Bible in a Year podcast to daily prayers to help with meditation. After the Super Bowl ad, it reached the number one spot on the app store.
Posting about the app and how he was using the Bible in a Year podcast on it in an Instagram story, Pratt wrote, “Here’s what I was listening to on my run portion @bibleinayearpodcast. Have loved using the @hallowapp! What a great job @markwahlberg”.
Continuing, in another story, this one a video in which a post-run, sweaty Chris Pratt explained that his “Bible in a Year” attempt will likely take him a bit longer to finish, saying that it “will probably be more like Bible in a Year and a half, but I’m doing my best.” He added, “I’m doing my best.”
Wahlberg, explaining the purpose of and hope behind Hallow in an interview on Fox News, said, “We just want to continue to encourage people to grow closer to God. So it’s been amazing ever since I was fortunate enough to get involved with a Hallo app, right around the release of father stew. You know, really his is allowed me to contribute as much as I possibly can and use the platform that I have to encourage people to have a relationship with God.”
Reporting on the Super Bowl ad in which Wahlberg championed the app, The Christian Tribune reported, “In the ad for the app, in which Wahlberg appeared alongside actor Jonathan Roumie, known for his portrayal of Jesus in “The Chosen,” Wahlberg led a prayer as the ad panned over shots of scenarios like a family praying at dinner and soldiers, presumably deployed overseas, prayed. In his prayer, Wahlberg said, “God, we take this moment, just to give you thanks.” He added, “Join us in prayer this Lent on Hallow. Stay prayed up.””
