The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) recently announced that they had secured a conviction in the merciless attack of a pro-life protestor. 27-year-old Patrick Brice was found guilty on four charges related to his assault of Dick Schaefer and Mark Crosby in 2023. The two men were peacefully protesting, and the attack was unprovoked.
“With sentencing anticipated on March 20, 2025, Brice faces the prospect of substantial prison time,” the conservative legal group added. ” Each of the second-degree assault charges carries up to 10 years in prison and the judge could order them to be served consecutively, meaning that Brice faces up to 20 years of prison time on the assault charges.”
“Our client, Mr. Schaefer, then 84, was standing on the sidewalk near the clinic… while Mr. Crosby, then 73, held a sign nearby,” explained the ACLJ. “Without warning, Brice violently slammed Mr. Schaefer into a concrete planter, rendering him unconscious. Brice then turned his aggression toward Mr. Crosby, who had run to Mr. Schaefer’s aid, striking him in the face, knocking him to the ground, and forcefully kicking him in the head.”
After the attack, the organization worked with police to find the suspect. According to their website, they were “founded in 1990 with the mandate to protect religious and constitutional freedoms, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) engages legal, legislative, and cultural issues by implementing an effective strategy of advocacy, education, and litigation.”
“As ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow continued to build his legal and legislative team, the ACLJ experienced tremendous success in litigating cases at all levels of the judiciary – from the federal district court level to the Supreme Court of the United States,” their website reads. “Over the last two decades, Sekulow has appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States on numerous occasions.”
The organization has “successfully argued precedent-setting cases before the high Court: Protecting the free speech rights of pro-life demonstrators; safeguarding the constitutional rights of religious groups to have equal access to public facilities; ensuring that public school students could form and participate in religious organizations, including Bible clubs, on campus; and guaranteeing that minors could participate in the political process by protecting their free speech rights in the political setting.”
“Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the ACLJ’s work reaches across the globe with affiliated offices in Israel, France, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, ” they report. “In addition to its religious liberties work, the ACLJ also focuses on constitutional law involving the issues of national security, human life, judicial nominations, and protecting patriotic expression such as our National Motto and the Pledge of Allegiance.”

“The ACLJ remains steadfast in its commitment to defend pro-life advocates and ensure that such acts of violence are met with appropriate legal consequences,” they concluded. “This case sends a resounding message: Violence against peaceful pro-life advocates will not be tolerated. The right to peacefully assemble and advocate for the unborn is fundamental and must be protected – lives depend upon it.”
