A cringeworthy video left conservative Christians outraged and demonstrated just how far the Episcopal church has deviated from traditional Christian doctrine, with two woke priests cracking jokes about the denomination’s willingness to officiate LGBT weddings and acceptance of other aspects of leftist culture that other denominations have rejected.
For context, a video shared on X on May 25, 2025, by the Christian blog Protestia featured two Episcopal priests, one man and one woman, riffing on the denomination’s embrace of woke ideology by saying that “of course” they would officiate gay weddings, respect parishioners’ preferred pronouns, provide free walk-in therapy sessions, and more. When Protestia shared the video, they hilariously captioned it “The Episcopal Church in 40 Seconds.”
In the video, the first priest proudly told the camera, “We’re Episcopal priests, of course we get dressed up on Sundays,” while donning the church’s traditional vestments alongside his female counterpart. Next, the male priest gestured to his rainbow-colored heraldry, saying, “I’m an Episcopal priest, of course, we’ll do your gay wedding.”
Continuing, the female priest riffed on the denomination’s acceptance of women in ministry, saying, “I’m an Episcopal priest…of course women can be priests!” Next, the male priest added, “I’m an Episcopal priest…of course I offer free walk-in therapy all day!” Then, in one of the most egregious examples of the church’s wokeness, the female priest proudly said, “We’re Episcopal priests…of course we know your pronouns!”
When Protestia shared the video of the two priests on X, conservative Christians were livid, with the user Chad Lanyon commenting, “For anyone interested, this is what the scriptures refer to as taking God’s name in vain.” Another commenter chimed in, “Oh my. Not based on Scripture or Sacred Tradition. The reason women can’t be ordained as priests isn’t about inequality or outdated tradition. It’s about fidelity to what God Himself set in motion.”
Furthermore, the video of the two priests proudly touting their denomination’s wokeness was shared just days after the Episcopal Church’s Presiding Bishop, Sean Rowe, announced that the church was withdrawing from federally funded refugee resettlement programs in response to President Trump granting refugee status to White Afrikaners. Bishop Rowe made the announcement in a letter on May 12, 2025, calling the treatment of South African refugees “painful to watch.”
Moreover, Bishop Rowe said that he was “saddened and ashamed” that the Trump administration was denying entrance to the U.S. to “brave people who worked alongside our military in Iraq and Afghanistan and now face danger at home because of their service to our country.”
Concluding his letter, Bishop Rowe told his parishioners to “pray for vetted refugees who have not been granted permission to come to this country,” also calling for prayer for “the staff who will be affected by the end of these federal grants, and for everyone who grieves the end of our federal refugee resettlement work.”
