Recent footage from the 2024 Paris Olympics shows a group of athletes from around the world joining together to worship God in a wholesome expression of faith. The video shows one athlete playing the piano while others gathered around her and praisedo Jesus Christ.
The text over the clip reads, “POV: you gather with other Christian Olympians in the athlete village to praise and worship God before competing.” The amazing display of Christian fellowship drew numerous reactions from users on social media applauding the athletes for their outward display of faith.
“Woaw!! For making Him Lord of all, even in the mist of suppression and intimidation of your faith. You indeed have your priorities right and may the Lord bless and honor you guys,” one person wrote. “Glory be to God. Not ashamed of Jesus. Great to see athletes of different countries spending time worshipping the Lord. Alleluia!” another person said.
The Christian Tribune has reported on a variety of Christian athletes from around the world who have used their platform on the global stage to display their faith. Perhaps the seeming increase in professions of Christian faith have been prompted by the controversial opening ceremony which many believe overtly mocked followers of Christ in a reinterpretation of the “Last Supper.”
The Christian Tribune recently reported on 16-year-old Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal who communicated Scripture in sign language as the camera panned over her. She signed John 14:6, which reads, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” She later told reporters, “Once again, thank God I won a medal. I’m very happy to be here.”
Other prominent figures from around the world have commented on the controversial opening ceremony, where Christian actress Candance Cameron Bure said, “So to watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s going to take place over the next two weeks, and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting, and it made me so sad.
She continued, “And someone said, You shouldn’t be sad. You should be mad about it. And I’m like, trust me, it makes me mad, but I’m more sad because I’m sad for souls. I want my heart, I pray for my heart to break over what breaks God’s heart. And I just think about all the people that have rejected the Gospel of Jesus Christ, or don’t know the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Newly converted Christian Russell Brand also weighed in, “I’m pretty down with inclusivity and diversity. I think people should be able to be who they want to be, whether you’ve got a traditional or progressive lifestyle. In a decentralized culture, where you’re not continually being cajoled and bludgeoned by a powerful state backed by commercial interests, you might choose to be a traditional Christian or a Muslim or a Jew or an atheist. And you might want to be a drag queen or whatever. It’s actually no one else’s business,” he said.
